Approximately 14% of the youth in America (Ages 2-19) are OBESE, defined as having a BMI of 30 or higher. One in seven. According to the CDC, obesity is linked to between 30%-53% of new diabetes cases, obese individuals’ risk of serious illness requiring hospitalization is tripled, healthcare costs for children with obesity were typically $310 higher per person per year, and the social, psychological and developmental harm is immeasurable.

Physicians address symptoms but know little about eliminating the underlying causes. Most commercial health clubs do not want youth in the building except for day care so mommy can take her Step class. And our elementary and junior high schools have seen so many budget cuts that physical education (aka gym class) as become little more than “Here is a ball. Try not to hurt yourself!
